"I was really looking to add some character to my Capitol Hill Row house and envisioned a home that would incorporate coordinated wood floors throughout...After talking to many contractors, I selected Something Different. Dave Robertson didn't just look at my plans and say he could make it happen, but he asked me what I was looking for in terms of schedule, and how to accommodate the renovations around my life and my dogs' life."

"We were early clients of Something Different and have gone back to the company numerous times as we update and improve various rooms in our 1923 NW DC house.
Through all of these projects, Something Different's work has been consistently high quality and completed on time. The company provided lots of helpful suggestions on how to fine-tune and improve our plans and works to ensure that all details are attended to. The team is reliable and pleasant to work with, both of which are important to us. We have and will continue to recommend their services to friends and neighbors."

"The whole building experience was great. No matter how many times I called Something Different, Dave was a joy to work with...Any questions I had, they either had an answer for me or got back to me the next day. Dave kept me informed of what was going on every step of the way."

"My husband John and I had a great experience with David Robertson and Something Different Contracting...David provided guidance in decision making-referring me to sources for materials and even met me at Home Depot and the tile outlet when I was flummoxed over what to choose. The work was done well; the job was completed in an efficient manner and the crew cleaned up to the best of their ability at the end of each day (a real plus). When called upon to do minor touch up and some additional new work, David complied expeditiously. We are very happy with the finished product!"

Dave (the owner) and Amilcar (the project lead) were excellent. Dave was especially good at balancing cost and quality in his recommendations, steering us away from costly work that wasn't necessary and wouldn't improve our quality of life. My wife and I feel Dave treated us fairly and professionally. We're extremely satisfied with the value we got for our money and the quality of SDC's work. We'd absolutely hire SDC again."

"We have used David and his team for 4 different projects on one home. The first was a small kitchen project back in 2003. The second was a big gut job redoing the 1st and 2nd floors of our 15 foot wide DC rowhouse. The 3rd, the basement. And the last and most recent job was an addition that forced a redo of the kitchen (due to the 140 year old walls giving way), that was to go on top of the kitchen. Between jobs SDC has been there for us when small things come up, so we think of them as our contractor, regardless if there is a project in the works or not."

As an Anacostia Watershed Master Steward, I was required to complete a community project that would have a permanent positive impact on DC’s river ecology and environment in general. Dave volunteered his crew to push the tough, messy project over the hump, which was to clear a 20-foot deep wall of invasive bush honeysuckle from the Kingman Island shore and create a picnic area with a river view. The Something Different crew was amazing, working like a well oiled machine to clear the brush, pull the stumps, prep the land and even gather the felled tree trunks and discarded telephone poles nearby to create a “border” for the picnic area. They promised much and delivered above and beyond that, just to help out the community."
